Coverage characteristics
5.1.1 Statistical presentation

Data are disseminated on the stock of external assets and external liabilities at the end of the reference period for the following prescribed components: direct investment, portfolio investment, financial derivatives, other investment, and reserve assets. These are further classified by instrument and by sector. Data are disseminated in millions of U.S. dollars on the international investment position  (IIP) .

The data are compiled in accordance with the methodology set out in the sixth edition of the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6).

Advance dissemination of release calendar

5.1.3 Advance release calendar

The IIP statistics are released regularly according to an advance release calendar.

Simultaneous release to all interested parties

5.1.4 Simultaneous release

The data are released simultaneously to all interested parties by issuing the press release of "Taiwan's International Investment Position". The data are also posted on the CBC website (https://www.cbc.gov.tw/en/lp-513-2.html) at the same time as the press release. The data are subsequently published in the 2nd quarter edition of the Balance of Payments Quarterly.

0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics

Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

The statistics are disseminated by the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) (CBC).

International investment position

The CBC is responsible for compiling the international investment position (IIP) statistics according to Article 39 of the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Act.

There is no internal government access to the data before the release to the public.

No ministerial commentary is attached to the release of the data.

4.3.1 Revision schedule

Annual IIP statistics are preliminary data when first released, containing estimates for unavailable source data. These data would be revised later when more complete data become available.

There is no advance notice of major changes in methodology but at the time of major changes in methodology there is a notice on the cover of Balance of Payments Quarterly.

5.2.1 Dissemination of documentation on concepts, scope, classifications, basis of recording, data sources, and statistical techniques

The methodology used in preparing statistics is described in the Appendix of Balance of Payment Quarterly.
