The Data: Coverage, Periodicity, and Timeliness
Coverage characteristics
5.1.1 Statistical presentation
  • Data for depository corporations are in billions of New Taiwan dollars, covering Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and other monetary financial institutions (i.e., domestic banks, local branches of foreign and Mainland Chinese banks, credit cooperative associations, and credit departments of farmers' & fishermen's associations, departments of savings and remittances of Chunghwa Post, and money market mutual funds).
  • Data on monetary aggregates comprise M1A, M1B and M2, based on the accounts of monetary financial institutions (including Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and other monetary financial institutions) on the averages of both daily and end-of-month figures. Among these, the annual growth rate of M2 is set to be an intermediate reference indicator.
  • Data on deposits, measured on an end-of-month basis, include demand deposits, time deposits, foreign currency deposits, postal savings deposits, repurchase agreements, money market mutual funds and government deposits.
  • Data on loans and investments, measured on an end-of-month basis, cover claims on public and private sectors. Data on claims on the public sector include claims on the government and claims on government enterprises, and those on the private sector include claims on private enterprises & others.
  • Data on the external position, measured on an end-of-month basis, are shown in net foreign positions (assets minus liabilities), covering the data of the central bank and other monetary financial institutions and excluding data of offshore banking units.

Advance dissemination of release calendar
5.1.3 Advance release calendar

An advance release calendar is disseminated on the CBC website. A one-week ahead notice of the confirmed/revised calendar is available in a press release issued in the morning of the first day of the release week.

Simultaneous release to all interested parties

A press release is available to the public at the announced time. Data are simultaneously available on the CBC website.

0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics

The CBC is responsible for compiling financial statistics according to Article 39 of the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Act. Data from individual banks are confidential.

There is no internal government access to the data before release to the public.

4.3.1 Revision schedule

Data on month-end monetary aggregates, deposits, and loans & investments are preliminary in the first release and subject to revision in the following month. There is no advance notice of major changes in methodology. Important changes in methodology or information are published at the time they are made in the Financial Statistics Monthly.

Explanatory notes are provided on the CBC website, and also in the January and July issues of the Financial Statistics Monthly.

Dissemination of component detail, reconciliations with related data, and statistical frameworks that support statistical cross-checks and provide assurance of reasonableness
4.2.1 Internal consistency

The Financial Statistics Monthly provides detailed components for the balance sheets of various kinds of institutions for cross-checks. Data on deposits and loans of domestic banks show breakdowns by type, by account, by sector, and by industry.
