Coverage characteristics
5.1.1 Statistical presentation
  • Data are disseminated on average monthly earnings in units of New Taiwan Dollars (NT$).
  • Earnings are defined as including remuneration for an employee during the month (including salary or wage, overtime payment, attendance and efficiency bonuses, living allowance, food and transportation allowance, year-end and seasonal bonuses), measured before any deductions for taxes and employee’s contribution to pension/insurance fund.
  • The data are based on a sample survey of non-farm industries. Approximately 10,800 establishments are selected, which covers about 1.0 percent of non-farm establishment and about 28.1 percent of the non-farm employment.
  • The data are published on both an unadjusted and a seasonal-adjusted basis.

5.1.4 Simultaneous release

The data are released simultaneously to all interested parties by issuing the press release "Employee's Earning Survey" at 4:00 p.m. of the release day. Copies of the news release are available for personal collection, and are also available at the Internet.

0.1.1 Responsibility for collecting, processing, and disseminating statistics
  • The DGBAS collects and disseminates statistics under the authority of the Statistics Act (2018).
    • It is prohibited for anyone to evade, obstruct or refuse the enumerators conducting the Basic National Census and Survey or Designated Statistical Survey (Article 14 Paragraph 3).
    • The respondent of the statistical survey, whether an individual, a household, a business entity, an agency or a group, has the duty to provide truthful information in due time (Article 15).
    • The documents and data shall be kept confidentially and not be used for any purpose other than statistics, unless the respondent has given a written consent during the implementation of that statistical survey (Article 19 Paragraph 2).

  • The data on earnings are disseminated by DGBAS as a service to the public.

The information in the press release is provided, under strict embargo, to the Premier, the Vice Premier and the Secretary-General on the morning before official release.

Provision of information about revision and advance notice of major changes in methodology
4.3.1 Revision schedule
  • The data are released 10th day of each month. The data are revised to reflect late reports and corrections received from respondents at next month.
  • The survey is conducted in accordance with the 10th revision of the Statistics Industrial Classification System of the Republic of China. And the estimates are adjusted with the number of employees obtained from the latest Industry and Service Census. In principle the benchmark adjustments are made once five years.

5.2.1 Dissemination of documentation on concepts, scope, classifications, basis of recording, data sources, and statistical techniques

Detailed methodological documentation and information such as survey method, sampling scheme, estimation method, benchmark adjustments, and questionnaire, all are published in DGBAS e-journal "Yearbook of Earning and productivity Statistics."

    • time series data (monthly data for the previous year, and average annual data for the previous 20 years);
    • annual data breakdown by sex and employment type
