Total employment increased by 20,000(+0.17%) in January to 11,471,000; however, it decreased by 3,000(-0.03%) when compared with that of the previous year.
The unemployment rate declined by 0.02 percentage points to 3.50 percent in January; the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.60 percent. The number of unemployed persons was 416,000 in January, a decrease of 2,000(-0.47%) and 14,000(-3.22%) from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.
Labor force participation rate in January remained unchanged at 59.17 percent as the previous month and that of the previous year.
